We're here! The USNS Byrd is anchored off the Island of Samoa and we are anxiously awaiting our small boat ride to the island, solid, beautiful land....Today we will meet with our local veterinary counterparts. They have done an amazing job preparing for our arrival--even our ships civilian crew has heard advertisements on the radio for our "free desexing (spay/ neuter clinics)."

The last two days at sea have stretched a little longer...Yesterday we had our 2ND fire and abandon ship drills. Today we sorted supplies and packaged all our gear for Samoa. Tonite is pizza, must be Saturday! Only a couple more days till the mission starts....
