The rest of the week in Kauai

Monday we went to Kilohana and did the train ride with the girls. Its a ride on an old sugar plantation train the tells the story of Kauai plantation history. Its a 40min venture with a stop to visit and feed wild pigs. Along the way we saw taro, pineapple, banana trees, papaya, coffee and tropical flowers. After our train ride we had lunch at the Gaylord restaurant. Good food, not so friendly service. On our way home we visited Kauai's Humane society, Very impressive building. They also have an attached dog park which is very convenient.
Tuesday we drove up through Waimea Canyon(the grand canyon of the pacific)We packed our lunch and had a picnic. The girls were a little impatient on the drive up. Many stops with gorgeous veiws along the way. A must see. Pictures just do not do it justice.
We also cramed in alot more. Spoting horn, Poipu beach, Opaka Falls, Wailua Falls, A visit to Kauai Coffee, Lydgate park,Glass Beach, Kauai Shar-pei Kennels(almost) and A boat ride down wailua river to Fern Grotto.

Zipping through Kauai

Sunday morning we headed out early to grab breakfast at Country Kitchen in Kapa'a. We ended up splitting an omlet breakfast. Our zipline adventure was at 9. Its about an 1 1/2 hour from the cottage depending on traffic. Its called a zip-n-dip. We ziplined on 9 differant lines. Lunch was included and a swim by the waterfall. The water was a bit cold. I'm not sure if I was numb or adjusting to the temperature. It was a little scary at first, but after the first line it was smooth sailing. After 4.5 hours of ziplining we stopped in town to view the lighthouse. There is a fee to actually get up close but we just made a quick stop to grab a few photos. We needed to get back to get our sitter to the airport. We left the light house at 2, home by 4 and back on the road by 5 with a 45min drive to the airport. We made one quick stop at Glass Beach.

Where did the weekend go?

We finally did some adventure activities.

Saturday morning we flew in a hughes 500 4 door minus the doors. I boarded the helicopter and thought what was I thinking. What a blast. A 60-65 Minute Tour is an excellent overview and introduction to all of Kauai's scenic wonders.

What did we see....
Nawiliwili Harbor and the Menehune Fishpond
Kipu Kai and the Tunnel of Trees
Manawaiopuna Falls in Hanapepe Valley
Olokele Canyon's pristine beauty
Waimea Canyon - the Grand Canyon of the Pacific
Na Pali's spectacular sea cliffs and valleys
The North Shore beaches from Ke'e to Hanalei
The Beautiful Bay and Valley of Hanalei
Mt. Waialeale - The heart of Kauai's ancient volcano
And finally, Wailua Falls
Is a good thing we brought Pants and a jacket. Brrrr plus a little rain.

An hour after our hilo ride we headed to a 4.5 hr ATV ride. I haven't been on one of those since high school. I could have one of those. I wish O was bigger. She would love this.

Sunday we took on another adventure ziplining on princeville ranch

Day TWO vacation

The girls slept well last night. K slept in a big girl bed by herself for the first time. Dad had to work today so it was just us. In the morning I had some things to do and then the we tried to hit the grocery store and on the way had car issues. We decided to leave the car and grabbed lunch while we waited for a ride home. After J worked we finally did get to the store. Dinner was Burger King. O's wanted a chicken sandwich and noodles so we at least found the chicken. We got some groceries and headed home.

Vacation

We are excited to be on vacation for a bit. We hopped on an interisland flight to Kauai for a littler R and R. Day one was exciting. We had a few kinks in our day but are making the best of it. Our flight was delayed and had to reboard a new plane. We ended up getting in an hour later then our original arrival time. The girls had an early morning and a long day. Dad had some work to do when we arrived and afterwards we were able to play and enjoy some beach. We hiked up just to the top of Kalalau trail. It was muddy and slippery, but the view was great. After our hike we enjoed about an hour of beach time and headed back to our cottage. By the time we checked in it was 6pm. Getting around the island from one side to the other takes about an 1 1/2 hours. There is also one road around the island. We were all exhausted. We ate dinner on base at Shenannigans. I had a taco bowl, the girls ate chicken. We then went home and put the girls to bed. overlooking Kauai poi fields
